SOC612 Study on Aging Society

Currently, Korea is aging so rapidly that it is unprecedented in other countries.It analyzes the current status and trend of aging, identifies the cause of rapid aging, and explores biological, psychological, and social theories related to general aging.In addition, focusing on the lives of the elderly in an aging society, it will open at an overview level on topics such as economy, health, human relations, housing, social participation, death and deathbed.

SOC620 Tourism and Modern Society

Tourism is currently the largest industry in the world and is a major factor and result of social change.And above all, modern people are constantly moving and traveling, and the "tourism" they experience in the process has now become a part of their daily lives.As such, tourism reflects the characteristics of modern society well and is an important social phenomenon that constitutes the life of modern people, but it has not received serious academic attention and has been slow to theorize.Starting with this awareness of the problem, this course aims to critically examine existing social science studies on various tourism phenomena in modern society and seek a theoretical framework for more in-depth analysis of tourism.In addition, we would like to have an opportunity to study the cultural industries around us related to tourism in detail and seek more desirable alternatives.

SOC627 Social Contexts of Advertizing

In a capitalist industrial society, which can be characterized by the flourishing of commodity economy and the commercialization of all socio-cultural factors, advertising is one of the important means of an ideological system that reflects and leads our society's cultural dominance.In this subject, by exploring the social meaning and context of advertising, cultural codes to understand the nature of our society are revealed, and the production mechanism of advertising is studied in connection with the current status of the advertising industry.

SOC614 Aging Problems and Policies for the Elderly

In order to identify and cope with major social and economic problems caused by the current rapid aging in Korea, the government's low-birth and aging society policy established in 2006 is closely reviewed and predicted.After that, new policy alternatives are sought and the focus of the policy is discussed.

It examines the phenomenon of popular culture as a collective expression of modern cultural codes and learns about various theoretical and empirical perspectives on the social meaning system and the trend of social change to analyze them. Through this, it enhances the ability to analyze popular culture, which is part of the core value system of postmodern society. Specifically dealt with the significance of popular culture, postmodernism and popular culture, and popular culture by field (TV, broadcasting, media, publishing, film, music, consumption).

SOC623 Industrial Aspects Culture

It explores the industrial phenomenon as a modern form of expression of popular culture. Specifically, the relationship between the value system that supports popular culture and capitalist economicism is interpreted from the perspective of the market, and the mechanism of its operation is studied. Through this, we deepen our understanding of culture and explore the possibilities and limitations of culture as a market phenomenon. Specifically, the contents to be dealt with include creativity and social context, content of expressive goods, production, consumption, cultural industry of digital society, globalization and cultural industry, and cultural industry and market.

SOC629 Cultural Studies and Cultural Theories

Cultural research is a methodology and research area that studies culture in combination, such as critical theory, political economy, communication, sociology, social theory, media theory, and film/video theory. It studies theories that critically shed light on the meaning and changes of culture in modern society, the social and political functions of culture, its relationship with the symbolic and aesthetic dimensions of culture, and the mechanism of semantic action. It reviews German critical theory tradition, French structuralist and de-structuralist cultural theory, British cultural research tradition, political and economic approaches to media and culture, feminism, and post-colonialism theory, and deals with topics such as ideology, identity, social class, and sexuality.

SOC624 Cultural Policy

Deepens understanding of the public nature of culture and the meaning and role of cultural policies, and explores the possibility of cultural policies that can enhance the cultural publicity and culture of modern society. In addition, it seeks to cultivate the possibility and ability to enhance the publicity of culture in the cultural industry field. This course aims to cultivate predictive skills for the future society. The main focus of this subject is not the content of predictions for the future society in various areas, but rather the theoretical, logical, and methodological frameworks that enable these predictions. Therefore, this subject is based on learning the formal framework of theoretical and logical electric fields necessary to predict the future society, which is the ultimate goal of social science. It also learns various methodological techniques that can be applied to the process of understanding current trends and predicting the future. Based on these formal and methodological learning, we critically examine the contents of predictions for various areas of future society.
